resonance imagingmentalrotation paradigmwasused to investigate the patterns of activation of fronto-parietal brain areas inmale adolescentswith attention-deficit hyperactivitydisorder, combined type (ADHD^CT) compared with age-, gender-, handednessand performance IQ-matchedhealthy controls. The ADHD^CT group had (a) decreased activation ofthe‘actionattentional’system (including Brodmann’s areas (BA) 46, 39, 40) and the superior parietal (BA 7) andmiddle frontal (BA10) areas and (b) increased activation ofthe posteriormidline attentional system. These different neuroactivationpatterns indicate widespread frontal, striatal andparietal dysfunctionin adolescentswithADHD^CT.

Effects of age and sex on developmental neural networks of visual-spatial attention allocation
Compared to our understanding of the functional maturation of brain networks underlying complex cognitive abilities, hardly anything is known of the neurofunctional development of simpler cognitive abilities such as visuo-spatial attention allocation. Furthermore, nothing is known on the effect of gender on the functional development of attention allocation. This study employed event related fu...
متن کاملEffects of age and gender on neural networks of motor response inhibition: From adolescence to mid-adulthood
Functional inhibitory neural networks mature progressively with age. However, nothing is known about the impact of gender on their development. This study employed functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to investigate the effects of age, sex, and sex by age interactions on the brain activation of 63 healthy males and females, between 13 and 38 years, performing a Stop task. Increasing age...
متن کاملAtypical Balance between Occipital and Fronto-Parietal Activation for Visual Shape Extraction in Dyslexia
Reading requires the extraction of letter shapes from a complex background of text, and an impairment in visual shape extraction would cause difficulty in reading. To investigate the neural mechanisms of visual shape extraction in dyslexia, we used functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to examine brain activation while adults with or without dyslexia responded to the change of an arrow's...
متن کاملDiagnosing Developmental Dyscalculia on the Basis of Reliable Single Case FMRI Methods: Promises and Limitations
FMRI-studies are mostly based on a group study approach, either analyzing one group or comparing multiple groups, or on approaches that correlate brain activation with clinically relevant criteria or behavioral measures. In this study we investigate the potential of fMRI-techniques focusing on individual differences in brain activation within a test-retest reliability context. We employ a singl...
متن کاملAnalysis of Memory-Related Brain Activation Maps in Sleep-Depriveation using Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging
Background and purpose: Insomnia is a common sleep disorder with negative consequences such as decreased quality of life. In this study, the effect of sleep deprivation on memory in both young and older adults was investigated using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). Materials and methods: In this retrospective study, fMRI data of 40 healthy subjects (17 young and 23 older people) w...
